Little Wandle Phonics
Little Wandle is the scheme we use to teach Phonics in the school. For children in the lower phases of the school the phonemes that they are learning each week will provide the focus for the phonetically appropriate reading books that the children will bring home to practice at the end of each week. Below is a range of guidance materials explaining how this works at all of the different phases.
Please visit Little Wandle Letters and Sounds website for more details to support parents and to hear how the sounds should be pronounced.
In Year 2 we build on this by using the Little Wandle Fluency books, which provides a seamless link from the main Little Wandle scheme and into the whole class reading provision from Year 3.
There are now some resources parents can buy to use a home if you wish to. Flashcards and workbooks are available via Amazon, Harper Collins or Scholastic and have helpful pronunciation support. Please ensure that any phonics resources match the Little Wandle scheme.
